What are the easiest ways to add memory to my computer?
Installing
computer memory really shouldn't be as daunting as some make it out to
be. If you are like most people, you may be saying, "I don't feel like
I'm qualified to add memory to my computer" If you've never opened your
computer but you'd like to increase your memory,
you are in a high percentage group with a broad range of consumers in
the technology industry. Installing memory can be a very simple thing
if the right procedures are followed. For example, one of the biggest
steps when you are installing memory has to do with the physical
characteristics of the slot that is in the computer. As you've probably
noticed, there are many different types of computer memory. DDR memory
will have a different slot type than an SDRAM or RDRAM module, etc. So
when you are installing the memory, it's important that you know the
differences between the slot types. If you are installing the memory on
a desktop computer, the memory slots will have small white or beige
clips on either side. In order to properly install the memory, those
white clips must be pressed down to the open position. Once they are
open, it's time to insert the module. In order to fully install the
module with good connectivity, it's important that you press very
firmly on the module until it snaps into place. The clips will lock
into place automatically on each side of the module. At times, you have
to put between 20-30 lbs of pressure on the module to get a good
connection.
You can install any type of computer memory; DDR, RDRAM, SDRAM.it doesn't matter!
Here's a question you may have: "Ok, so I've learned how to add memory to my computer
(desktop), but what about my friend's computer that is a laptop?"
Laptops will be a bit different when it comes to installation. The good
news is that it is often easier to access the memory slots on a laptop.
The memory will only ever be located on the bottom of the laptop, or
under the keyboard. The majority of the laptops out there have the
memory located on the bottom. When you flip the laptop over, you will
see anywhere from 1-4 small plastic doors that are held down by some
very small screws. In order to get to the memory, you'll have to
unscrew the correct door and remove the cover. The memory slot may not
simply say "computer memory". DDR memory will not be different from
another memory type in this case, for example, but the slot should at
least have an "M" next to it, which tells you that's the correct door
to remove. Once the door is removed, you'll be able to install the
memory. The module will need to be installed at a 45 degree angle and
then pressed down flush with the board. There are installation guides
and diagrams on our website that show this process in detail. When it
comes to installing memory, there really isn't more important than a
strong, solid connection.
